Turkish authorities maintain that their measures are connected to the protection of children and traditional family values.
Turkish authorities have detained at least 150 people following protests over a widening operation targeting LGBTQ+ associations across the country. The government says the operation, dubbed “My Family is Safe,” is aimed at protecting children and preserving family values.
The latest action follows raids on associations, businesses and individuals across 15 provinces, with 16 people kept in custody pending trial in Izmir. Authorities have also restricted access to websites and social-media accounts linked to several LGBTQ+ groups.
The developments have drawn criticism from international rights groups, while Turkish authorities maintain that their measures are connected to the protection of children and traditional family values.
