The growing Christian response comes as the government strengthens its efforts to address the situation
The Church in South Africa is intensifying its call for an end to gender-based violence and injustice, as Christian communities respond to the disturbing recent killings of nine women in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng Province, east of Johannesburg.
The growing Christian response comes as the government strengthens its efforts to address the situation. On September 20, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide announced that it had approved a Comprehensive Emergency Strategy aimed at accelerating efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
The strategy focuses on prevention, law enforcement, protection and safety, justice, rebuilding social cohesion, and support for victims and survivors. Authorities have also elevated the specialised investigation team, placing its coordination under the Deputy National Commissioner for Detective Services as the nation responds to the crisis.
