The announcement came amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
U.S., President Donald Trump says the United States Navy, has removed or detonated all mines from the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping route. Trump said Iran had been warned against placing new mines in the waterway.
Trump also said the U.S. Space Force is monitoring the Strait closely, describing surveillance of the waterway alongside monitoring of Iranian nuclear facilities. He warned that any vessel attempting to deploy new mines would face a U.S. military response.
The announcement came amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran. Efforts to restore safer commercial navigation through the strategically important passage, is yet to yield the needed cooperation between the two countries.
In the meantime, Iran and Oman are separately discussing a temporary navigation corridor through the Strait.
