US and Nigeria Deepen Security Cooperation, Seal A Tougher Anti-terror Pact

‎High-level Security meetings held in Abuja in the month of July, where both countries re-affirmed security commitments to deepen cooperation in trade, maritime security, counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and regional peace management. ‎

‎With the Defence and Military in focus, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, re-affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to stronger defence cooperation with the US, to tackle terrorism, violent extremism and transnational crime. ‎

‎Also established were the new working groups where Nigeria and the US inaugurated Defence Institutional Technical Working Groups, under the 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap.

This was as a means of strengthening institutional capacity and denying terrorists safe havens. ‎ ‎Following the Africa Command (AFRICOM), operations, the US-Africa Command, also re-affirmed commitment to joint operations in North-East Nigeria.

The DHQ confirmed that the joint Nigeria-US operations, have been a huge success in the North-East. ‎ ‎ ‎

The National Security Adviser, in the person of Nuhu Ribadu, said Nigeria stands resolute as a frontline defender in the Lake Chad Basin and Sahel. According to him "Through unwavering partnerships like this one, we will dismantle terror networks and build lasting peace".
