British Supreme Court in Gibraltar Releases Grace 1

Release occurred despite US efforts to halt it

The oil tanker from Iran which had been seized earlier on has been set free by the British Supreme Court sitting in Gibraltar. The supreme court approved the release of the tanker despite several moves by the United States to stop the release.

The court said it received assurances from  Iran, the owners of the oil, that the cargo will not be going to Syria, which would be a breach of European Union sanctions. The Chief Minister, Fabian Ficado said there are no longer reasonable grounds to suspect that the detention of the cargo is required.
