Mogoeng laments media bias and one-sided reportage of COVID-19 issues.
Former Chief Justice of South Africa, Mogoeng Mogoeng says that the issue of the debate around COVID-19 vaccines was being silenced in the media. He complained of one-sided reportage on the issue. He also questioned why those who did not wish to be vaccinated were being forced to do so when vaccinated people were better protected from the virus.
Speaking on Monday night during an interview with a local news broadcaster, Mogoeng questioned why the media had not queried “facts” over the origin of the Coronavirus, vaccines, and what informed the establishment of the Disaster Management Act and whether it aligned with the country’s Constitution.
Mogoeng, also pointed out that the disaster management act was resorted to instead of section 37 of the Constitution, which relates to a state of emergency. The Former chief justice says he refused to be captured during his tenure as head of the Constitutional Court and that the next chief justice needs to be as bold.
