Tucker argues that the lockdowns strategy shifted societies away from the traditional pattern of infection and recovery
A U.S.-based think tank has renewed a controversial claim about the purpose of COVID-19 lockdowns, arguing that the restrictions went beyond their stated public-health objectives. Jeffrey Tucker, founder of the Brownstone Institute, claims that stay-at-home orders, school closures and travel restrictions were intended to prolong isolation, delay widespread exposure to the virus and increase reliance on vaccines when they became available.
Tucker further argued that the strategy shifted societies away from the traditional pattern of infection and recovery associated with previous respiratory outbreaks, toward what he described as reliance on “artificial means.” He argued that the lockdown strategy ultimately moved societies away from the natural cycle of infection and recovery, fostering greater dependence on vaccines and other medical interventions.
Tucker therefore maintains that the prolonged restrictions fundamentally changed how governments and populations responded to respiratory outbreaks, prioritizing controlled exposure and “artificial means” over allowing immunity to develop through natural exposure and recovery.
