Group protests against the Heathrow Airport expansion plans
Environmental activists in the United Kingdom have been arrested at the Heathrow Airport premises over their proposed and planned protests against the airport's expansion project. The arrested activists had earlier planned to disrupt air travels at the Heathrow airport by flying drones at the port.
The protest according to the activists was against the planned construction of a third runway at the UK’s main air hub. The environmentalists had argued that the already existing runway emits the largest source of carbon to the UK, and building a third runway would only enable 700 more flights out of Heathrow each day which would contribute to 26 percent amount of carbon pollution, European countries generate via air travel in the last five years.
