“40 months in Syria as hostage finally over”
The 44 years old Japanese freelance journalist, Jumpei Yasuda returns home to an uncertain welcome after three years of captivity at the hands of Syrian militants. Yasuda described his experience in captivity as a physical and mental hell.
Jumpei Yasuda, who quit his job as a reporter on a Japanese newspaper in order to cover the Iraq war in 2003, arrived in Tokyo on Thursday on a flight with Turkey.
Some considered his decision to go and cover the war in Iraq, as reckless adventurism, while others see it as courage in journalism.
Japanese government officials had earlier travelled to Turkey to confirm his identity. Japanese prime minister, Shinz? Abe thanked the Turkish authorities and else where, for their help in freeing Yasuda.
Despite how the entire nation of Japan may feel, his wife and family will certainly be most delighted and happy to have him back home.
