"Recovery of bodies effort ramped up prior to deadline "
Rescuers ramped up the search for missing victims of a dissatrous earthquake and tsunami that struck Sulawesi island, Indonesia on the 28th of September, 2018.
At least nine escavators were seen digging in two areas in Ballawowa village on Tuesday morning, just two days before a government deadline to halt operations. This was a step up from the usual scattered search involving three to five excavators in the previous week.
More than one thousand seven hundred (1,700) houses, were reported to have sank into the ground in Ballawowa village which was one of the worst areas particularly hard hit by liquid fraction, which turns the ground into a rolling quagmire destroying buildings, and dragging people under the mud, and the debris.
Rescuers said, it had become increasingly difficult to find corpses. The official death toll from the disaster was estimated to be over two thousand (2000) with most of the fatalities in Palu.
No one knows precisely, the number of people missing but from speculations, it could be as high as five thousand (5000). The National Disaster Agency said there is need to pray for wisdom from God and help for all the people affected.
