HSBC faces More Criticism for Backing Chinese Security Law for Hong Kong

British official and U.S politicians join in criticizing the bank.

Several government officials from different parts of the world have criticized the position of the HSBC for backing the strong Chinese security law for Hong Kong. Recent among the critiques is the British foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab who stated that the bank’s position on the law totally contradicts the British government’s opposition to it. According to Raab, the British government will not sacrifice the people of Hong Kong over their ultra-bank bonuses and that the government made a strong commitment to Hong Kong to protect their autonomy and protect their freedom. Mr. Dominic said that the government will hold China to its responsibilities to let bank and business make their own judgments.
