The proposal seeks to remove Irish backstop
The United Kingdom has presented a proposal on how to deal with the Irish borders after Brexit. The proposal seeks to remove the so-called backstop but with measures to avoid the need for checks on physical infrastructure.
The proposal document is set to provide for the potential creation of an all island regulatory zone on the island of Ireland. It would also ensure the integrity of the European Union single market. The proposal document is designed in such a way that it would suffice for an agreement which should be acceptable to both sides.
