S.A xenophobia lead to shutdown in Alexandra as residents protest
The town of Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, witnessed a total shutdown in relation to xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Shops and schools were closed and commercial activities came to a halt as residents protested over mushrooming of shacks and illegal structures in the township due to lawlessness and poor service delivery. Residents claim foreigners are responsible for erecting illegal structures close to the river banks and other issues affecting the municipality raised. Meanwhile, President Ramaphosa has sternly warned individuals involved in xenophobic attacks and he vowed to come hard on anyone attacking foreigners in South Africa. The president stated this during his address on cases of xenophobia recently witnessed in parts of the country in which 3 people were reportedly killed.
