Governors of the 36 States in Nigeria agree to pay 22,500-naira minimum wage to Civil Servants
Governors of the 36 States of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have reached a consensus to pay a total sum of 22,500 naira as new minimum wage to workers in the country. The decision was reached after a 3 hours meeting of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Tuesday. The chairman of the Forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul-aziz Yari Abubakar, said that the welfare of the people is of utmost priority to the NGF. Diverse reactions to the approved new minimum wage of 22,500 naira for workers have emerged from the Nigerian populace. Some of the opinion that while the Federal Government can pay the federal civil servants, some states may not be able to pay because they don't have Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) while others say any State that insists on not paying the 22,500 naira minimum wage is just being insensitive to the plight of the workers who make so much sacrifices to report at their duty posts more than 20 days in a month.
