Protection of the right to religious freedom must be one of the most urgent responsibilities of the international community A desperately needed global movement to push for religious freedom rights world over has begun. US Ambassador for Religious Freedom, Sam Brownback disclosed that the focus of the United Nations event was religious freedom. The event was moderated by the Deputy Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN. According to him, the international community must make the protection of the right to religious freedom, its priority. He further pointed out the observed steady rise in persecution and discrimination against Christians and other religions across the globe. In his speech, Brownback questioned the international community's tolerance to the disturbing awareness that 80% of the world's population live in a religiously restricted atmosphere and asked how much longer should this continuing situation be tolerated when the people are guaranteed these rights in most constitutions and by the UN charter as well.

Religious freedom is one of the fundamental human rights recognised by the United Nations Charter and constitutions of most Nations recognises it. Yet it's been so amazing how the world has turned blind eye to several cases both severe and mild of attacks on the rights of so many to express and exercise their faith in different nations. Churches are closed down by governments under different guises, The suspicious HATE SPEECH laws being touted by different nations in most cases target mostly Christian's from expressing their faith. Freedom of worship is an inalienable right that must not only be upheld but defended by every nation and every government. People everywhere must be at liberty to worship their 'God' and express their faith in whatever way or form their faith and conscience permit, so long as such expression of faith does not put the life of another human being at risk and also does not infringe on the right of another to express his or her own Faith.
