President Joseph Kabila agrees to step aside for the election of a new president after delaying the polls for two years
The long sitting president of the Central African country, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has agreed to step aside after delaying the elections for two years. The people of DRC will take to the polls on the 23rd of December to vote in their new president. Two main candidates are in the contest to succeed President Kabila. One of them is hand picked by Kabila while the other is an opposition leader.
