Hard shell now to be processed for use in industrial products
Benin Republic in West Africa is known as one of Africa's largest cashew producers. In the last two seasons the country has recorded as much as 100,000 tons of cashew. Until now, only the edible part which forms a small percentage of the entire fruit was put to use with almost 80% of the cashew wasted. Now, cashew nut shell liquid derived from a by-product of the hard shell is being processed for use in industrial products as a more natural product.
