Stakeholders converge to seek solutions to curbing fake news ahead of 2019 general elections in Nigeria
As Nigeria prepares to go to the polls for the 2019 general elections, there is need to curb the spread of fake news especially on social media. This led to the convergence of stakeholders to deliberate on possible solutions to curtailing fake news and its negative effects. Jamie Angus; Director, BBC World Service Group, Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Nobel Laureate winner; Professor Wole Soyinka as well as Uche Pedro; founder of Bella Naija, a major blog site in Nigeria and Funke Egbemode; Editor-in-Chief, New Telegraph were amongst the stakeholders at the meeting who took turns to speak on the issue and the way forward.
