Bridging the digital divide for the future generation.
In a bid to equip the youth with essential skills for the digital era, the Loveworld Institute of Innovation and Technology launched a basic digital skills training program for secondary schools across Lagos State. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide initiating interest and prepare students for the evolving landscape of technology.
The ongoing training commenced last year, with a fresh set which kicked off on January 31st, 2024, has already seen enthusiastic participation from secondary schools in the region. The curriculum is carefully crafted to cover a spectrum of digital skills, including digital literacy and internet skills, computer fundamentals, digital tools and communication, coding and programming basics, and digital marketing, providing students with a holistic understanding of the digital realm.
Pastor Dotun Akinwunmi, the Executive Head of the Loveworld Institute of Innovation and Technology, expressed his conviction about the initiative, stating, "We believe that by imparting these essential digital skills, we are not just preparing these young people for future job markets but also nurturing a generation of innovators and problem solvers. In today's world, proficiency in digital skills is as crucial as traditional academic knowledge."
The training is facilitated by experienced instructors and industry experts, ensuring that the content is not only theoretical but also practical and relevant to real-world applications. Students are encouraged to actively engage in hands-on exercises, fostering a learning environment that promotes creativity and critical thinking.
The Loveworld Institute of Innovation and Technology's commitment to this cause has garnered support from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, which views the program as a significant step towards aligning education with the demands of the 21st century. The ministry has expressed its intention through its Director for Science and Technology to explore further collaboration with the institute to expand the reach of this initiative not only to students but teachers as well.
Parents have also welcomed the program, recognizing the importance of preparing their children for a technology-driven future. Mrs. Adekunle, a parent, commented, "I am thrilled that my child is gaining practical skills that go beyond the traditional classroom setting. These digital skills are indispensable in today's world."
As the Loveworld Institute of Innovation and Technology continues its digital skills training, it is anticipated that this initiative will play a pivotal role in shaping a digitally literate and empowered generation, ready to face the challenges and opportunities of the future.
