The increased security presence follows intelligence indicating the possibility of coordinated terrorist attacks in different parts of the country
Security forces in Kebbi State have recorded a significant development in the ongoing efforts to tackle terrorists and bandits activities, following a joint operation by the Kebbi State Police Command and the military in Gumki Forest, Kangiwa. The early-morning clearance operation on Wednesday, September 16, targeted a suspected terrorist hideout and resulted in the deaths of suspected terrorist elements.
Security personnel also recovered live ammunition, motorcycles, military camouflage uniforms, boots, mobile phones and charms from the forest, an area authorities identify as a route frequently used by bandits and Lakurawa elements. Following the operation, authorities said the area has remained relatively calm, while joint forces continue clearance operations in surrounding areas.
Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadeija, has urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information, that could assist ongoing efforts to identify and dismantle criminal networks.
The Kebbi operation comes as security agencies across the nation have maintained heightened surveillance around schools, NYSC orientation camps, churches, mosques and other vulnerable locations.
The increased security presence follows intelligence indicating the possibility of coordinated terrorist attacks in different parts of the country, with authorities continuing to urge vigilance as security operations remain ongoing.
