Churches and Christian communities have increasingly become vulnerable, with reports of church buildings being attacked or taken over by armed groups, and believers being displaced. Dozens of Christians were reportedly kidnapped during attacks on church communities.

The violence is taking place against the backdrop of Sudan’s wider civil war, which began in April 2023. The conflict has been going on amidst tribal tensions, competition over resources and fightings involving factions of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North.
