The amended bill has now been forwarded to the Chamber of Deputies for consideration.
The Paraguayan Senate has given preliminary approval to a bill seeking to establish a National Day of the Evangelical Church, marking a significant step toward officially recognizing the contributions of evangelical churches to the nation. The bill, introduced by four senators following a request from the Association of Evangelical Churches of Paraguay, originally proposed October 31 as the observance date, in reference to the Protestant Reformation of 1517.
However, the Senate amended the proposal, designating the last Sunday of October each year instead. The proposed observance is intended to recognize the historical, cultural, social, educational, humanitarian, and spiritual contributions of evangelical churches across Paraguay.
These contributions include work in education, healthcare, humanitarian assistance, social support, communications, and service to vulnerable communities. The amended bill has now been forwarded to the Chamber of Deputies for consideration.
If approved, the last Sunday of October would become an annual national observance recognizing the role and contributions of evangelical churches in Paraguayan society.
