Egyptian Christians conduct a funeral service for those killed during an Islamic militants attack
Hundreds of Egyptian Christians attended a funeral service on Saturday conducted for those who died in an attack by Islamic State militants who ambushed three buses carrying pilgrims to a remote desert monastery. It was reported that seven people were killed in the attack and nineteen others wounded.
The funeral service took place at Prince Tadros church in the central city of Minya and was held amid tight security. Minya’s top cleric, Anba Makarios, led prayers over a row of six white coffins, all victims from the same family. A separate funeral was held for the seventh victim, who was a bus driver.
The church also said, an Islamic State affiliate based in the restive northern Sinai Peninsula claimed responsibility for the attack, claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said the attack was a revenge for the imprisonment of their chaste sisters by the Egyptian authorities.
