CAFPRA Calls for Review of Sexuality Education Policies in Nigeria

The Organisation expressed concerns that some educational content may not be appropriate for young learners.

The Centre for African Policy Research and Advice (CAFPRA), has called on the National Assembly to review Nigeria’s policies on sexuality education and reproductive health.

Speaking at a media engagement that was held in Abuja on August 20, the Organisation expressed concerns that some educational content may not be appropriate for young learners. They have urged for greater legislative oversight of policies affecting Nigerian children.

CAFPRA has also maintained that the materials and programmes targeted at children are part of a comprehensive review of the curriculum and related policies, aimed at ensuring that educational content aligns with Nigeria’s values and the realities of society.

The Executive Director, Dr. Segun Adebayo, stressed that such policies should reflect Nigeria’s social and cultural realities, and be developed through broad consultation with parents, educators and other stakeholders.
