Whatley faces Democratic former Governor Roy Cooper in the race to succeed retiring Senator Thom Tillis
U.S. President Donald Trump is campaigning in North Carolina today, in support of Republican Senate nominee Michael Whatley.
Trump is scheduled to address a campaign rally at Gastonia Municipal Airport as Whatley faces Democratic former Governor Roy Cooper in the race to succeed retiring Senator Thom Tillis. The visit marks Trump’s first major campaign rally since the Republican Party’s midterm convention in Dallas and comes as the 2026 midterm campaign intensifies.
Recent polling cited by Reuters showed Cooper ahead of Whatley, while economic affordability remains a significant issue among voters. The event is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m. local time in Gastonia.
