FG Sets 90-Day Ultimatum for New National Security Strategy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has given a newly inaugurated committee, 90 days to develop a comprehensive threat assessment and a five-year defence operations plan aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Committee was inaugurated on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, with a clear mandate to submit both documents within 90 days for presidential consideration and approval.

According to the SGF, while the Armed Forces and other security agencies have recorded significant successes in recent months, the government must move beyond responding to individual security challenges, and establish a more strategic system capable of anticipating emerging threats, setting clear priorities, allocating resources effectively and sustaining security operations.
