Algeria Coalition Confirms Bouteflika's Fifth Term Candidacy

Bouteflika's health condition cannot deter him from performing his duties as president says Algeerian prime minister

81 years old President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria has been named by Algerian ruling coalition as its candidate for the presidential polls in Algeria slated for April 18th 2019. President Bouteflika who has been in power since 1999 and currently in a wheel chair as a result of a health condition, has however not confirmed if he will again run for office for the fifth term. In the last polls held in 2014, Bouteflika indicated interest to run, only a few days ahead of the dead line. Algerian Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia however, says President Bouteflika's health condition is not an obstacle to performing his duties as president. Presidential aspirants have until March 3rd at mid-night to submit their applications.
