The meeting comes shortly after Ambassador Ikpeazu formally began his diplomatic assignment in Spain
Nigeria and Spain are exploring closer cooperation in agriculture and livestock as both countries look for ways to strengthen food security. The discussions took place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, in Madrid, where Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, met Nigeria's Ambassador to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
Spain's Agriculture Ministry said the meeting focused on possible avenues for collaboration, including the exchange of knowledge and experience to address shared agricultural challenges. The meeting comes shortly after Ambassador Ikpeazu formally began his diplomatic assignment in Spain, presenting his credentials to King Felipe VI on September 14.
The ambassador has identified agriculture, alongside trade, investment, energy and infrastructure, as areas in which Nigeria and Spain could deepen bilateral relations. The latest engagement therefore opens discussions for further agricultural partnerships at a time when Nigeria is seeking stronger solutions to food-security challenges.
