Amazon is in discussions with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) over their long-term delivery partnership, with the company’s current contract set to expire next year.
According to The Washington Post, Postmaster General David Steiner is considering a reverse auction that could allow national retailers and regional shipping companies to compete for access to USPS facilities and Amazon’s delivery business.
Amazon is currently USPS’s largest customer, generating more than $6 billion in annual revenue in 2025, or roughly 7.5% of the postal service’s sales. Amazon said it was surprised by the proposed auction after nearly a year of negotiations, but added that discussions remain ongoing as both sides consider extending their partnership, which began more than 30 years ago.
